The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) reported a whopping $290.7m in iGaming revenue (online sports betting and online casino) in April 2025, up 23.8% from last year’s figure of $234.8m.
When separated, the state made $248.1m in total gross receipts from Michigan online casinos and it also made $42.6m from online sports betting.
However, these figures prove to be a 0.9% combined decrease when compared to March’s results of $260.5m.
In Michigan, as of April 2025, 15 commercial and tribal operators have been authorized and approved to provide iGaming and/or online sportsbook betting in the upper Midwest state. All 15 providers offer online casino services to players, while 12 have a mobile sports betting offering.
Michigan online casino revenue April 2025
The state made $248.1m in total gross receipts from Michigan online casinos which turned out to be a decrease of 4.8% when compared to the previous month.
However despite the month-on-month (M-o-M) decrease, Michigan’s online casino figures increased 28.6% year-over-year (Y-o-Y), up from $192.9m in April 2024.
Among the online gambling operators in the state, the leading operators were FanDuel at MotorCity Casino, who reclaimed the top spot having made $67.6m in gross receipts, down 0.8% month-on-month.
Next up were the March leaders, BetMGM at MGM Grand Detroit, with returns of $64.9m, which were also down 5.8% compared to March.
The top three was completed with DraftKings, run by the Bay Mills Indian Community, with their link-up securing $42.4m in gross receipts and they proved to see an increase of 3.4% M-o-M.
Michigan online sports betting revenue April 2025
Sportsbook activity resulted in a 1.7% year-on-year jump for gross revenue, up to $42.6m, but adjusted gross receipts fell 3.6% to $26.8m.
Additionally, the total amount of sports bets wagered in Michigan during April 2025 was down 12.1% from March 2025 to $417.9m.
Conversely, total gross sports betting receipts was up 29.3% to $42.6m when compared month-on-month.
FanDuel Casino at MotorCity Casino continues as the market leaders in the sports betting segment, with $19.1m in gross receipts recorded, against a $154.6m handle.
DraftKings at the Bay Mills Indian Community are in second place with figures of $10.5m gross sports betting receipts off a $114.9m handle.
Meanwhile BetMGM at MGM Grand Detroit secured a top three place with $5.8m in gross receipts, off a $53.9m handle.
Total online gambling revenue in Michigan April 2025
Across the full online gambling spectrum, including sportsbook activity, the total revenue return was $290.7m, showing another significant year-on-year rise, an increase of 23.8%.
This was very close to the all-time high recorded in March 2025, just 1% behind.
Total adjusted gross receipts, once promotion spending was deducted, reached the $259.9m mark, exceeding last year’s sums by more than a quarter (28.7%) falling just 0.3% short of the totals set in March this year.
Michigan iGaming tax revenue April 2025
Michigan’s state purse received $49.6m in combined iGaming tax dues, while the City of Detroit received $13.1m in taxes from the approved commercial operators.

Additionally, the state’s tribal operators contributed a further $5.6m to the relevant authorities, but this also decreased by 5.7% when compared to March 2025.
Overall online casino operators contributed 4.6% less in tax in April than they did in March, and the city of Detroit received 3.6% less from commercial online casinos for the same period.
Online sports betting operators, however, contributed an increased amount of tax when compared M-o-M, with tax contributions increasing 61% to $1.4m. The City of Detroit also saw 79% in extra tax revenue from online sports betting, M-o-M, rising to $504,986.32.
However the state’s operators have contributed 34.4% more in taxes when compared Y-o-Y.
Michigan Gaming Control Board continues ongoing enforcement action
Against this backdrop of a surging market, the MGCB have not been complacent in their duty to provide effective oversight and protection for bettors.
The regulator has continued to take enforcement action against illicit operators, with a particular focus on illegal or unapproved entities that operate outside the state jurisdiction and therefore, the regulatory and tax framework.
In April 2025, the MGCB issued 11 cease-and-desist orders to such iGaming providers found to be ‘unlawfully targeting’ Michigan residents, following on from 10 similar enforcement actions in March this year.
The state is also probing the developing predictions market, as major operators like DraftKings watch on with interest – ready to exploit the potential opportunity for growth.
Again, the investigation centers around unlicensed operators with player protection paramount to the MGCB.
An investigation was confirmed earlier this month with a warning fired to illicit operators:
“We take consumer protection very seriously and are committed to ensuring that Michigan residents are engaging with safe and legal sports betting options, said Henry Williams, Executive Director of the MGCB.
He continued, “Unlicensed entities not only pose a risk to consumers but also undercut the integrity and revenue-generating potential of the state’s regulated sports betting industry.
“We are actively investigating these practices and will pursue appropriate measures to protect Michigan bettors.”
The state regulator is concerned at the risk posed to s, especially with the blurring of lines between responsible sports gambling as a form of entertainment compared to sports betting as a potential financial trading vehicle.
Further issues exist for the regulator in of lost tax revenue, fraud, identity theft, and insufficient data protection systems as part of the overall threat posed by illicit operators.
The regulated sector, overseen by the MGCB, obliges licensed operators to adhere to its requirements, including age verification measures, KYC protocols, AML checks, self-exclusion policies and integrity monitoring.
